Child Protection

Under the USM Policy on the Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect, all members of the UMBC community have a duty to report suspected child abuse and neglect.

Successful implementation of this policy recognizes and enables the protection of the safety and welfare of the suspected victim, the protection of the safety and welfare of other current or future victims, and the offering of recovery efforts to presently unidentified victims. In addition to stopping active abuse and neglect, the policy and law seek to eliminate an abuser’s / neglecter’s access to other victims by requiring reporting of past abuse/neglect. Notably, a person who reports abuse/neglect, in good faith, is immune from civil liability or criminal prosecution and shall be free from any institutional reprisal.
