FAQs for Annual Mandatory Training for Employees: Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Title IX

Yes. Under UMBC’s Interim Policy on Sex Discrimination, Sex-Based Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct (updated August 1, 2024), all employees must complete annual Title IX training

All faculty (including adjunct faculty), staff (regular and contingent), and student-employees (including teaching assistants and graduate assistants) are required to complete this training each year.

No. Any student who completed the online Vector Solutions (Safe Colleges) training before October 1, 2024 will not be required to attend the Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Title IX Training.

However, these student-employees will be required to take a second online training course to learn about their obligations as a mandated reporter.

All UMBC employees must complete all required training by December 12, 2024.

To fulfill this requirement, UMBC employees must attend either a live in-person or live virtual training session titled “Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Title IX” delivered by the Office of Equity and Civil Rights. Each session lasts 50 minutes and will be offered from September 30, 2024 until December 12, 2024.

Please visit ECR’s myUMBC group Events page to register for a training session. Training sessions have a seating capacity, so please register for a session in advance of attending.

Some training sessions will be tailored to a specific audience (e.g., Faculty, GAs/TAs, etc.). Please select a session that aligns closely with your role at UMBC. If you have questions about which session to attend, contact ECRTraining@umbc.edu.

The Training will cover:

  • Overview of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR)
  • ECR policies and procedures
  • Definitions of Prohibited Conduct under University policy;
  • Procedures for reporting and resolving reports of Prohibited Conduct;
  • How to respond to a disclosure; and
