FAQs for Annual Mandatory Training for Employees

General FAQs

Yes. Under UMBC’s Interim Policy on Sex Discrimination, Sex-Based Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct (updated August 1, 2024), all employees must complete annual Title IX training.

All faculty (including adjunct faculty), staff (regular and contingent), and student-employees (including teaching assistants and graduate assistants) are required to complete Title IX training each year.

Yes. Our policies apply to all UMBC employees, regardless of whether they work on-site or remotely.

All UMBC employees must complete all required training by December 12, 2024.

To fulfill this requirement, UMBC employees must either attend a live “Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Title IX” training session delivered by the Office of Equity and Civil Rights, or complete the appropriate asynchronous training modules outlined here.

Training will cover:

  • Overview of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR)
  • ECR policies and procedures
  • Definitions of Prohibited Conduct under University policy;
  • Procedures for reporting and resolving reports of Prohibited Conduct;
  • How to respond to a disclosure; and
  • Parameters of confidentiality.

Prohibited Conduct includes:

  • Sex Discrimination
  • Sex-Based Harassment
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Domestic Violence
  • Dating Violence
  • Stalking
  • Retaliation

Please visit ECR’s myUMBC group Events page to register for a virtual training session. Training sessions have a seating capacity, so please register for a session in advance of attending.

To request an in-person training session for your group, please email ecrtraining@umbc.edu.

Student-employees must complete additional online training about their obligations as a mandated reporter in order to meet the annual Title IX employee training requirement.

Student-employees who attend a live “Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Title IX” training session do not need to complete the additional online training. They must still complete the required annual online Title IX student training (“Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates” or “Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students”).

Student-employees (including teaching assistants and graduate assistants) are mandated reporters under UMBC’s Interim Policy on Sex Discrimination, Sex-Based Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct, and are strongly encouraged to complete their required training as soon as possible to ensure they understand their obligations under this Policy.

Please email ecrtraining@umbc.edu for further instruction.

If you believe you cannot meet this training requirement for any reason, please contact ECRTraining@umbc.edu.

For further questions, please contact ECRTraining@umbc.edu.

No, you do not have to complete it in one sitting. The training platform will save your progress each time you log in or out. However, once you start an individual video, you must complete it in one sitting. If you navigate away from the video while it is playing, you will be required to watch it again.

If you need closed captioning, click the “cc” button at the bottom right corner of the video. To view the interactive transcript, click on the icon displayed in the bottom right corner of the video screen.
