Women Have Disrupted Research on Bird Song
A diverse approach leads to new insights
Several former and current UMBC students, along with Dr. Kevin Omland, UMBC professor of Biological Sciences, published an article in "The Conversation" about how an increase in women working on bird song helped overturn long-held dogma about bird song evolution. They argue this is a strong case study of how a diversity of researchers and a diversity of approaches leads to new insights--excellence through diversity.
